Programmed Apprenticeships & Traineeships, in partnership with Leichhardt, is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Apprentice Mobile Plant Mechanic to join the team at the Lake MacLeod operation in Carnarvon, Western Australia.

About You

We're looking for someone who:

• Has a genuine interest in mechanics and heavy machinery
• Is reliable, motivated and eager to learn
• Can work effectively both independently and as part of a team
• Is committed to working safely and maintaining a positive attitude
• Is willing to follow instructions, take initiative and continually develop new skills
• Has completed Year 10 or equivalent (preferred), with sound mathematics skills
• Holds a current driver's licence or is working towards obtaining one

What You'll Learn

As an Apprentice Mobile Plant Mechanic, you'll gain valuable hands-on experience while developing the practical skills needed to become a qualified tradesperson. Throughout your apprenticeship, you'll learn how to:

• Diagnose faults and carry out mechanical repairs, component removals and installations
• Inspect, maintain and repair braking, steering, cooling and suspension systems
• Service and maintain fixed and mobile plant equipment to manufacturer and workplace standards
• Assemble, fit, clean and lubricate mechanical components using a range of tools and equipment
• Diagnose and repair low-voltage (12V and 24V) electrical systems
• Prepare new machinery and equipment for commissioning and operation
• Perform scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance
• Rebuild machines and major mechanical components
• Diagnose and repair hydraulic systems and faults
• Read and interpret technical manuals, service information and workshop documentation
• Work safely in accordance with company procedures, policies and industry standards
• Communicate effectively with supervisors, qualified tradespeople and other team members
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the workshop
• Successfully balance on-the-job training with TAFE studies to complete your apprenticeship

What You Need to Know Before Applying

This apprenticeship may require you to attend TAFE in Perth several times throughout the year under a block-release training model. During these periods, travel and accommodation will be arranged and paid for by the company; however, attendance is compulsory.

You should be comfortable:

• Living away from home for short periods while attending TAFE block release (generally up to two weeks at a time)
• Travelling independently to and from Perth, including between your arranged accommodation and TAFE each day
• Committing to both your workplace responsibilities and training requirements throughout the duration of your traineeship

This is an important part of successfully completing your nationally recognised qualification.
